Another sustainability award for Canada Bay

“Our commitment and hard work has been rewarded again, winning the Community Action and Wellbeing Award at the national level,” he said.

“We have initiated numerous programs to reduce waste, maximise recycling and clean up our streets, water ways, parks and places, all of which assist in making Canada Bay a great place to live for our community.”

At the national awards, City of Canada Bay also received a highly commended in the Litter Prevention Waste Management & Resource Recovery category.

“We are very pleased to once again be recognised for these fantastic projects and the work that we are doing in sustainability,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Canada Bay was also recognised for its  education and behaviour change program - including a branded website, recycling videos, translation into multiple languages, education program for schools and 22 workshops conducted. 

Australian Sustainable Cities judge Sean Rooney said: “The Council’s strategic approach to environmental, social and economic sustainability is embedded in all aspects council activities spanning policies, planning, operations and performance reporting.”
