City of Canada Bay announces biggest budget to date

| 19 June 2018

“The budget announcement comes off the back of the largest community engagement project we have ever undertaken – our Community Strategic Plan. We went to the community to build a plan for our future to meet the opportunities that lie ahead, and now we are ready to hit the ground running,” said Mayor Tsirekas. Highlights of the 2018-2021 delivery program span across a range of service areas.  The budget proposes $30 million for the redevelopment of Concord Oval, providing world class sporting and recreation facilities for our community, and a Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence. Sporting groups will benefit from a $4.4 million project providing new synthetic playing surfaces at Majors Bay Reserve in Concord.  The streetscape upgrades along Great North Road will continue with a $3.3 million makeover, part of the Five Dock Public Domain Upgrade. “It’s an exciting time for the City of Canada Bay. Along with these key projects, we are developing a new bike plan in consultation with the community, identifying how future pedestrian and cycling infrastructure can benefit active residents, workers, and visitors alike.” In the 2018-19 capital works budget alone City of Canada Bay will spend $21 million on capital works, including $6 million on parks and seawalls, $5.3 million on footpath upgrades, $3 million on roads, and over $880,000 on swimming pools.
