The City of Canada Bay is a fast growing business region positioned within 10 kilometres of Sydney's central business district and surrounded by 38 kilometres of foreshore. Over 3000 businesses, from home based to large corporations have chosen this region to operate from. These businesses occupy 852,098 sqm of floorspace.

In 2006, it was reported that 22,656 people worked within the Canada Bay LGA and the working population is currently estimated to be in excess of 24,000 people, approximately 1.5% of Sydney's workforce.

Currently there is additional 'A' grade commercial space under construction at Rhodes and North Strathfield.

Accessible Business

The Missed Business Guide is a guide for small business that will help you attract more customers by providing better access to your business. The Guide provides information about the benefits of diversifying your customer base and will provide you with easy to read practical tips and suggestions for improving access for all your customers as well as help you to meet the mandatory requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Building and Development

Council has a number of plans, policies and strategies that help shape future development within the Canada Bay area. Prior to commencing a business within the City of Canada Bay it is recommended to liaise with a Duty Planner on 9911 6555 between 8.30am and 1pm Monday to Friday.

Business Use of the Footpath

Outdoor dining and use of the footpaths is increasing across the Council area as local businesses flourish and look for opportunities to create more vibrant and interesting shopping areas.  In order to ensure consistency, control and fairness, there is a Council policy that applies to the business use of footpaths across the City of Canada Bay.
 

Child Friendly Business

The Child Friendly Guide for Businesses contains tips including having a welcoming, friendly attitude to all customers and their children, providing doors that open easily with one hand, provide a baby feeding or nappy change area, make available high chairs and booster seats and provide parking spaces for parents with young children.

Community Profile

The City of Canada Bay Community Profile is designed to inform community groups, investors, business, students and the general public. To achieve this, the Profile is formatted to present the data in simple, clear tables and charts with concise factual commentary.

Council supports filming and photography in the local area and has hosted all manner of filming customers ranging from small student films to large scale network productions.  Council has a responsibility to our residents, businesses and the local environment to ensure these activities are carried out in a way that minimises disruption and inconvenience. The City of Canada Bay is committed to its Food Safety Surveillance Strategy, which aims to minimise the risks associated with the consumption of food sold throughout the City.

Graffiti Management

The City of Canada Bay's Graffiti Vandalism Management Strategy was adopted by Council on 18 August 2009. It identifies a number of reactive and proactive strategies to be implemented over the next three years.

Council's Five Dock and Concord Libraries have an extensive collection of business related resources. Library facilities include facsimile, photocopying, internet access and at Concord Library, the Knowledge Bites Café.

Members of Council's libraries can also download publications through eLibrary 24/7.
