Council's Commitment to Retail/Commercial Precincts
Council undertook major streetscape improvements in 2004, including:
- widening the footpath for alfresco dining;
- improving safety in the area by changing traffic facilities;
- increasing lighting and upgrading the street furniture;
- additional landscaping;
- creating high quality public space around the entrance of the railway station; and
- incorporation of public art, designed by Lloyd Kelerman and featuring 16 mosaic panels built into the footpath. The theme for the art is the rich heritage of the area with each panel referencing a historic landmark for the locality.
