Great North Road Committee

Council recently sought nominations from business people in Five Dock, Wareemba and Abbotsford to represent their commercial precincts on a new committee, The Great North Road Committee.  

The Great North Road Committee's structure and role was endorsed at Council's meeting on Tuesday, 2 June 2009.  

The Great North Road Committee will support the direction of FuturesPlan20 (FP20) playing a key role in assisting in the delivery of a number of broad directions that will strengthen and sustain small business in the Precincts.  

Members of the committee will work with Council and key stakeholders to; Support and facilitate village centres, develop retail and commercial strategies to respond to trends and create diverse and appealing shopping experiences, lead the development of tourism and visitor opportunities which improve sustainability of local business and develop opportunities within the City, and generate initiatives to revitalise and maintain village centres as vibrant community spaces.
