| 25 January 2018

Alice is currently the Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Concord Hospital and has advocated tirelessly for our veterans in her service as Executive Officer to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway.

Today, Alice was recognised at our Australia Day ceremony hosted by City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.

“This is a well-deserved accolade for Alice who’s commitment, enthusiasm and advocacy in the City of Canada Bay has delivered many benefits for our community,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Other residents and organisations honoured at the ceremony included: Arts & Culture Citizen of the Year, Concord Garden Club, one of the oldest garden clubs in Australia; Young Citizen, James King, Rosebank College’s 2018 school captain; Sports Citizen of the Year, and Abbotsford Juniors Football Club U18s, who last year won the Football NSW Champion of Champions Tournament for the first time in the Club’s 52 year history.

The event also included a Citizenship Ceremony and address by Australia Day Ambassador, Dr Cindy Pan. Medical practitioner, best-selling author and media personality, Dr Cindy Pan has written for publications such as Body and Soul and appeared on television shows including The Morning Show and Q&A.

“We have a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate community spirit. Congratulations to all of our winners and to our newest citizens,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

Alice is the Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Concord Hospital, having started work at the hospital as a nurse over 40 years ago.  Alice has been the driving force behind the Hospital’s events and fundraisers including Opera at Rivendell and the recent Rivendell Flower Show.  Alice also serves as Executive Officer to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway, organising yearly commemorative services and remains a tireless advocate for all our veterans.

As one of the oldest garden clubs in Australia, the Concord Garden Club has been working in our community for over six decades, meeting monthly to share cuttings, knowledge, expertise and to prepare for the Club’s annual ‘Autumn Flower, Vegetable and Floral Art Show’.  This important community Club has fostered enduring friendships and provide an important link to our community’s history and heritage.

Rosebank College’s school captain for 2018, James King exemplifies the virtues of good citizenship.  He has served on the College’s Student Representative Council and is a selfless role model for not only younger students, but also his peers.  James successfully lobbied the NSW State Government for the rights of those under 18 to report issues pertaining to environment to the EPA.

The Abbotsford Juniors U18s completed an historic season in 2017, first winning the Canterbury District Division 1 Championship and then going on to be crowned NSW’s number one team after winning the Football NSW Champion of Champions Tournament for the first time in the Club’s 52 year history.
