2008 Local Government Elections

Local Government elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 and the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005, by the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC).
Voting is compulsory for all residents of the City of Canada Bay Local Government Area (LGA) who are registered on the electoral roll. Electors for Federal and State elections are automatically enrolled for their local Council area.
Please note there is no absentee voting in Local Government Elections. If you will not be in the City of Canada Bay on the day of the election, you can lodge a postal vote in the period immediately prior to the election.
In the 2008 Local Government Election, you will be voting for 9 Councillors, as well as our Mayor. The term of the newly elected Council will last 4 years.
