Coming soon: contemporary and innovative community facilities in Concord and Cabarita
Concord - Wellbank Children's Centre and Occasional Care Centre
Construction of the new Concord Library, Wellbank Children’s Centre and Occasional Care Centre is progressing well.
Work on the building is due to be completed early 2008, with the Children’s Centre scheduled to open early April and the Library opening early May 2008.
This new facility will incorporate the state of the art Library, the Children’s Centre providing care for children six weeks of age to school age from 7.30am-6pm, an occasional care childcare centre and a café.
The new facility will provide access to services and resources in a vibrant and flexible environment.
A new customer service centre will be accommodated within the new Library, enabling the community to have access to Council customer service functions such as the payment of rates, animal registration and the purchase of park and street permits.
Public meeting rooms will be also be available for hire by community groups.
The new facility is located on Wellbank Street, Concord in close proximity to Majors Bay Road, public transport, sporting venues and restaurants.
Cabarita - Swimming Centre
Following the announcement earlier this year of a major upgrade to the Cabarita Swim Centre, steady progress has been made toward the commencement of construction.
The Centre’s 50 metre Olympic pool will also be fitted with water heating and a new plant room housing mechanical systems such as filtration units.
The redevelopment of the site includes:
- Demolition of existing amenities, tiered seating, southern stand and plant room; and
- Construction of new Community meeting rooms, Administration, public change areas pool concourse and pool plant room and filtration equipment.
A contractor commenced work on the site in January 2008 and the anticipated completion date for the works is September 2008.
