Temporary and Mobile Vendors

Council acknowledges the value of temporary food stalls and mobile food vending vehicles as a convenient and alternative method of selling food within the City.  Their presence at the many community events held throughout the year is a major factor in the overall success of such events.

A temporary food stall is a temporarily positioned facility used for the sale of any article of food to the public.  A food vending vehicle includes any vehicle, whether mobile or stationary, used for the purpose of selling any article of food to the public.  Council has adopted policies to cover both temporary food stalls and mobile food vending vehicles.  Proprietors are expected to adhere to these policies in addition to relevant food legislation at all times to ensure that the food sold is safe for human consumption and that the construction, fitting out and facilities for cleaning utensils, articles, fittings and appliances in vehicles and stalls are adequate.

Proprietors of temporary food stalls and mobile food vending vehicles must register with Council and notify their business to the NSW Food Authority prior to operation.  Council’s Environmental Health Officers conduct inspections of temporary food premises and mobile food vending vehicles to ensure compliance with Council’s policies, legislation and to provide education to proprietors and staff operating such businesses.

Note: Roadside stalls are prohibited in the City of Canada Bay and are not considered the same as temporary food stalls or mobile food vending vehicles.
