Remnant Bushland

Today, the only remaining examples of the once extensive Cumberland Plain Forest in the City of Canada Bay, exist as small, isolated remnants in Concord & Concord West.  These remnants contain the Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest vegetation community (one of eighteen different vegetation communities that form the Cumberland Plain Forest complex).  Queen Elizabeth II Park (corner of Broughton St and Gipps St, Concord) is a Council managed reserve containing approximately 5Ha of regenerating Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest (STIF).  The restoration of this natural asset was initiated approximately fifteen years ago by the then Concord Council, and has continued to improve and expand through the coordinated efforts of Council and the Concord Bushcare Group.

Other Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest (STIF) remnants in the City are present on the Department of Health estate surrounding Concord Hospital, including the highly valuable and relatively intact Dame Edith Walker Reserve.
