| 15 August 2017

“I am very excited to be performing at the 20th anniversary of Ferragosto,” De Vito said. “Being of Italian heritage, I’m very proud that the festival has grown from a little idea to a calendar event that draws more than 100,000 each year.”

The singer, who runs a vocal and performance studio in Five Dock, is looking forward to performing in front of her students, friends, family and the community.

“Five Dock is such an amazing location to host Ferragosto, I find that families in the area are beginning to immerse their children into other cultures, which makes me very proud,” De Vito said.

“I love areas that are open to sharing and celebrating my family’s background.”

De Vito will be performing songs in both English and Italian on the day. “I always love the opportunity to perform Italian songs,” she said. “It is such a poetic and expressive language and the Italian community love their music. It is always wonderful to reconnect with your heritage so there will be some nostalgic songs that I used to sing with my grandfather, who is an Italian tenor.”

She will also be performing her new single , which she has recorded in Italian and English.

So what is the singer looking forward to at Ferragosto aside from performing?

“I don’t usually eat before performing, so after my performance I’ll be sure to visit a few food stalls. Especially after a few power-ballads and upbeat songs, food hits the spot,” De Vito said.

“I love a good Sicilian arancino or cannoli like my grandmother makes and you can always rely on authentic Italian food at Ferragosto. I will be passing by Rustico Sardo Restaurant as they will be serving delicious porchetta delivered fresh by my husband Gus from Five Dock Meat Market,” she said.

See De Vito perform at Ferragosoto on Sunday, 20 August on the Ferra Varieta stage at 1.40pm, right after the official opening at 1pm. The festival runs from 10am-4pm.
