Ferragosto a tremendous success

| 21 August 2017

“How awesome to have more than 100,000 people came along to our 20th celebrations. It was a wonderful day celebrated both by locals and visitors alike,” City of Canada Bay Mayor, Helen McCaffrey said.

“I had many people approach me throughout the day to say they were having an incredible time and a number of local businesses and stallholders said they had been busier than ever before.

“Many came together to make the event happen and I would particularly like to thank those local organisations that help to make it such a fantastic day such as our local SES and police and of course Council’s staff who do a tremendous job.

“Five Dock’s vibrant Italian culture and heritage was on display yesterday, and Ferragosto is about celebrating these Italian traditions. It is wonderful to see so many community members, visitors and businesses get behind this event.”

Great North Road in Five Dock was completely transformed into a buzzing slice of Italy as people embraced the array of music, dancing, performances, cooking demonstrations, food and merchandise stalls and more.

The event included performances by Australian Idol finalist, Cosima De Vito, food demonstrations with renowned chef Massimo Mele, Salt Meats Cheese, Unico Ristorante and Angelo’s on the Bay and fun for children with Nick Jr.’s PAW Patrol Ready for Action Show.

Local community groups and businesses also starred with Dance @ Nikki Webster, The Music Dojo, Five Dock Public School, Abbotsford Public School Choir and Beats 905 Performing Arts Studio, just to name a few.

Sweet delights were found in the gelato sundae building and taste testing competitions. City of Canada Bay would like to thank everyone involved in Ferragosto.
