Congratulations to everyone involved in Livvi's Place, a new state of the art, all abilities playground at Timbrell Park.  Families from all over Sydney came to enjoy a great day out with lots of stalls, games and attractions.  I'm sure this playground will become a firm favourite for kids of all ages.

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in the 2009 Mayoral Charity Golf Day held at Massey Park Golf Club.  A cloudy day did not dampen the spirits of those who gave generously.  On behalf of the four local schools who will benefit from the day, thank you.

I officially opened the fantastic new playground at McIlwaine Park, Rhodes.  The new playground is in accordance with our "Let's Play" strategy increasing the potential of our playgrounds and broaden play opportunities for children and families over the next ten years.

I officially opened the Inner West Relay For Life.  Survivors, carers and a caring community coming together to raise funds and awareness of Cancer.  Council has been a long time supporter of Relay For Life.

The City of Canada Bay was crowned the national winner of the Keep Australia Beautiful Australian Sustainable Cities Award for 2009.  In the last twelve months we have won awards at a local, state, national and international level.  A wonderful achievement for our community.

I officially opened the new purpose built Derivan factory at Rhodes.  Derivan has been the recipient of several of our Sustainability Awards and also puts a percentage of profits back into the community.  Fabulous facility where you can go to unleash the artist within.

Taking part in Ride To Work Day with Alice Kang, Manager Marketing and Veterans at Concord Hospital.  Thsi is a great initiative to get people moving and realising the importance of exercise.

I officially opened the World Masters Games Hockey event at Cintra Park last Saturday.  It's great to see our facilities being used for world class events.  The World Masters Games are the world's largest multi-sport event attracting up to three times more competitors than the Olympic Games.  They run until 18 October.

Last Wednesday, successful applications of the 2009 community grants gathered to receive their grants for the coming year.  There were over 40 different groups who were recognised and funded this year.  Congratulations to everyone for doing an outstanding job in helping our community.

I was adjudicator at the annual Domremy "v" Rosebank College debate on Monday night.  I would like to congratulate the students who took part in the debate and thank all involved for a great evening.

I was at the official opening of the new THUMP gym at Five Dock with cricketers Brad Haddin and Doug Bollinger, Herald Sports Editor Daniel Lane and owner of the Gym, Christian Marchegiani.   I have no doubt the gym will be a success.

I attended the opening of the inaugural Rotary "Art at the Point" local art exhibition at Breakfast Point Country Club with the Federal Member, John Murphy.  Over 150 local works are on display.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas attended the opening of the "Aashiya's Gallery of Artisans" at 4 Rawson Avenue, Drummoyne.  The gallery has a strong charity base with a small percentage of profits being donated to a charity that supports education for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas and John Elasi who is celebrating five years of business in Concord.  Floormania has won over 8 major awards including the national industry award from the Australian Timber Floor Association, Best Local Business Inner West.  A great achievement.  Congratulations John.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas addressing the gathering at the Communities for Communities breakfast held at Angelo's on the Bay this morning.  The City of Canada Bay and Communities for Communities have joined forces to run a number of breakfast meetings featuring inspirational Australians investing their business skills into social ventures to benefit people and communities.  The breakfast featured Di Pass of 360HR as guest speaker.

Premier Nathan Rees and Mayor Angelo Tsirekas enjoyed meeting the crowd at Ferragosto 2009.  The Festival is the highlight in the City of Canada Bay events calendar and was a great success with over 50,000 people enjoying a fantastic day out on Great North Road, Five Dock.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas attended the opening of the Ralph Honner Educational Centre at the Kokoda Track, Concord by Premier Nathan Rees.  The Kokoda Track is used regularly to commemorate events and services, and the Ralph Honner Educational Centre is a wonderful new facility that our community can now utilise.

It was my pleasure to attend the annual Concord Seniors Lunch and auction held at the Concord Senior Citizens' Club.  This year the proceeds of the auction were being donated to the Oncology Research Unit at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

I would like to congratulate the winners of the 2009 kNOw Waste Art Competition which was held as part of Council's World Environment Day activities.  We received over 300 entries and 10 children were selected to receive prizes with the overall winning artwork being transposed onto a recycling truck.

It was my honour to officially open the Drummoyne Art Show at the Drummoyne Civic Centre.  The quality of work was outstanding and I congratulate all those who took part in the show.  It's great to think we have so much talent in our City.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas officially opened the Doungporn Thai Beauty Salon in Victoria Road, Drummoyne.  The owners, who also have another Salon in Five Dock, offer massage and beauty therapy in the traditional Thai style.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas, actress Penny Cook and Norma Shankie Williams, Director of Metropolitan Co-ordination, Department of Planning at the launch of the latest upgrade of the Bay Run and Council's audio walking tours.  The Bay Run is utilised by over 10,000 people each each.

Mayor Tsirekas officially opened the City of Canada Bay Museum at at 1 Bent Street, Concord. The collection includes war memorabilia, household items, clothing, sports memorabilia, fashion, office items such as a typewriter collection, local industries such as Victor Mowers, Arnotts, Bushels and a large antique toy collection.

Minister Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government came to Drummoyne Oval to announce a Federal grant of $5.3m towards the development of the Drummoyne Sports and Cultural Precinct in Sydney.  This development will provide state-of-the-art sporting and cultural precinct at Drummoyne Oval and Drummoyne and Taplin Parks.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas, David Koche and Councillor Neil Kenzler attended the very successful Inner West Small Business Expo: Surviving the Crisis.  The two day Expo was presented in partnership with a number of Inner West Councils and the Sydney Business Enterprise Centre in an effort to support local small business people.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas met with John Murphy, Federal MP for Lowe and John Perkins from the Touched By Olivia Foundation to view the plans for the first all abilities playground to be constructed at Timbrell Park, Five Dock.

Council held the inaugural Bay Day at McIlwaine Park, Rhodes.  The day was centred on celebrating the wonderful world of tea and coming together as a community.  Tea stalls, tea reading, tea ceremonies and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.  It seemed to suit everyone to a Tea.

Opening of the Intergenerational Fashion Exhibition at Concord Library.   The exhibition, "What Would Your Mother Say!" explores the changes in young women's fashion, expression, attitudes, identity and hemlines across the decades.   The exhibition will be on display until 3 May.
