Tea's Up! It's Bay Day

March 19, 2010

A free festival for the whole family, Bay Day celebrates the history of tea and the way different cultures love and enjoy one of the world's most popular beverage.

Savour delights of the Orient! Try Turkish tea at the Authentic Turkish Gozleme stall and the flavours of India and Sri Lanka with tea from Kenya Tea and Roper Tyler Trading.

With your tea of choice, savour sweet Spanish churros, or cakes and snacks from a variety of delicious food stalls.

There'll be a great range of entertainment with music performances from Greg Poppleton's Bakelite Dance Orchestra, featuring 1920s Hot Jazz and 1930s Swing, and Viva Duo playing lively gypsy jazz.

On the dance floor you can get moving to Swing and for the more laid back, enjoy Korean flute playing and tea ceremonies in the tea garden.

Children will be in for a treat from the Jitterbugs, colourful fun characters that will take them on an interactive and musical journey.

Other activities include roving entertainment, story telling of Beauty and the Beast, children's arts and crafts workshops, rides and games.

Get your future told from your tea leaves and experience the beautiful, natural parkland and bay surroundings with your friends and family.

Easily accessible from Concord Road, free parking is available. However, Council encourages you to walk, cycle or use public transport to travel to Bay Day where possible. McIlwaine Park is a short walk from Rhodes train station. This is a smoke-free event.

Bay Day is proudly sponsored by Mirvac and supported by Transpacific Cleanaway.
