100 attend Rhodes West information session
The new plan proposes to re-zone Rhodes West to allow high density residential dwellings in a small area of the peninsula, whilst maximising public space and providing better community facilities.
This replaces a previous State Government plan which provided less open space by having low rise buildings situated close together and a smaller community facility.
The new Master Plan provides five 25 storey towers, one 20 storey and one tower which has a 15 and 18 storey dual design to accommodate around 400 more dwellings and an extra 1000 people, taking the population for Rhodes to 12,000.
Questions asked on the day included how a population increase would affect transport, roads, parking and school facilities, plus comments on higher buildings and shadowing.
It is important to note that the increase to the population of 7,000 quoted on original plans has changed due to current population projections and requirements of the current NSW State Government to accommodate a growing city.
Those who attended also provided written questions and concerns which will be carefully reviewed along with other submissions received while the plan is on Public Exhibition. Whilst all concerns and submissions will be considered, analysed and addressed where possible, there will be a range of differing views resulting in some views being met and others not.
The plans were developed through open dialogue and productive negotiations between Council, developers and the State Government to ensure appropriate funding is available for much needed parks, road infrastructure and community facilities in Rhodes West, which Council views as a key part of this project.
The final decision on the Rhodes West Master Plan lies with the State Government.
Council encourages people to review the plans which are on public exhibition until 3 August at Canada Bay Civic Centre, Drummoyne, Monday to Friday at 8.30am-4.30pm and Concord Library, Monday to Thursday at 9.30am -7.30pm; Friday at 9.30am-5pm; Saturday at 9.30am-4pm and Sunday at 1pm-5pm.
