E-Waste Drop Off Day
Unwanted electronic goods can be recycled safely at the City of Canada Bay's e-Waste Drop Off Day on Saturday, 18 February at the Crane Street car park, Concord from 9am-3pm, said Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.
Last year, more than 100 unwanted TVs and old computer monitors were recycled through the annual event, preventing potentially toxic rubbish going to waste disposal areas.
Normally only available to residents of the City of Canada Bay, this year Council has formed a partnership with Leichhardt Council to give their residents the opportunity to also recycle their e-waste.
"Council is pleased to be able to develop this partnership with Leichhardt Council to give their residents the same opportunities to recycle as we have enjoyed in the City of Canada Bay,” Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.
“Based on the popularity of the program in previous years, we are expecting a huge turnout this year.
“Last year, 13,620 kilograms of e-waste was collected with 387 residents visiting the site.
“With the inclusion of Leichhardt residents into the program, I hope we are able to build on that, reducing the amount of electronic waste polluting landfill sites.
“As we are expecting a much higher number of people this year, I would encourage all our visitors to follow the instructions of staff on site to ensure a speedy flow through.”
The e-waste drop off day is one of a number of programs run by the City of Canada Bay throughout the year to help protect our environment.
Household chemical waste clean ups, Clean Up Australia Day and other programs are a feature of Council’s calendar.
Council also maintains six gross pollutant traps throughout the City which trap various forms of litter from throughout the greater inner west region, which helps prevent pollution reaching our waterways.
