Brewing local success in Five Dock

Sustainability | 18 November 2018

With a new award for innovation from the City of Canada Bay in their growing trophy cabinet, a local success story is brewing in Five Dock.

“To celebrate their recent success at the 2018 City of Canada Bay’s Sustainability Awards, I had the honour of visiting our home-grown brewing legends, Akasha Brewing Company,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“With a wide range of core and rotating beers on tap in their Tasting Room, as well as national distribution, Akasha Brewing Company is a great example of local business putting Five Dock on the map,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“Their Five Dock Tasting Room is a fantastic local place for beer lovers to enjoy, and is a pleasant reprieve from the hustle and bustle of other inner west brewery strips.”

“At Akasha, we have been brewing the beer that we love for years, and we are so thankful for the support from the City of Canada Bay ever since our inception in 2015,” Founder Dave Padden said.

“We’re passionate about providing good beer brewed right here in the heart of Five Dock to both the local community and beer lovers across the country,” Sales Manager Matt Denholm said.

“We even have a very special brew, Canada Bay Ale, which is only available in the local area – it’s our way to honour our local community that has shown us so much support.”

“Akasha are the perfect example of a business successfully transforming not only the space they are in but also activating and exciting the area around them,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

The Tasting Room at the brewery is a great place to sample a range of beers, and on the weekends visitors can also enjoy a feed from food trucks such as Norma’s Burger Bar, Dog Daze Burgers, and more.

Earlier this year at the City of Canada Bay’s Sustainability Awards, Akasha Brewing Company were presented with the inaugural Innovation Award.

“With their commitment to sustainability, a quality product and a thriving local tasting room they are quickly becoming a part of our area’s identity – it gave me great pleasure to honour them at this year’s awards,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

The awards, held every two years, celebrate individuals, groups and businesses that show innovation and commitment to creating a smarter, greener and more connected community.

Akasha Brewing Company is located at 10A Spencer Street, Five Dock. The Tasting Room is open Fridays 2-8pm, Saturdays 12-8pm and Sundays 12-6pm.
