Council proposes new home for Early Childhood Centre
City of Canada Bay Council has proposed a new permanent location for the popular Drummoyne based Early Childhood Centre.
Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said that after several rounds of discussions between Council and the South Western Sydney Area Health Service, Council has proposed that the Centre move to the historic Gatehouse building in Chiswick.
"Council currently leases a building for the Centre, but we believe this facility will provide much needed space for the Centre," Mayor Tsirekas said.
"The added bonus of this location is that it is next door to a community centre that could be used for parenting classes or other groups meetings associated with the functioning of the Centre."
The proposed location provides a modern facility with good access for parents using prams.
It is currently used to accommodate Council's Law Enforcement Officers and Parking Officers, who will soon move to an upgraded new facility in Drummoyne, clearing the way for the Centre's relocation to the Gatehouse.
The provision of early childhood health services is a partnership arrangement where by Council provides the building and cleaning services. The NSW Department of Health supplies the staff to provide programs and services supporting parents and carers.
"We think this is an ideal location for the Centre so we'll start negotiations with the Department of Health to make it happen as soon as we can," Mayor Tsirekas added.
