FuturesPlan20 Update

June 19, 2008

City of Canada Bay Council's FuturesPlan20 project is coming together and is on the way to achieving a community developed strategic vision for the next 20 years for our City.

An initial round of community consultation was met with a great deal of support and enthusiasm. Council consulted with over 1000 people who all offered great ideas and shared their vision for the future of our City.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said, "It was fantastic to see so many members of the community come along to a consultation day or send in the survey, and make the most of the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of Canada Bay.

"I was delighted to meet and speak to many community members during the consultation stage and am excited about working with the community further as we develop this plan."

Key ideas and priorities have now been drawn together from both the Community Survey and Community Forum Consultation. The themes that our community has identified include caring for the City's natural environment (the river and parks) and maintaining a balance of buildings and green open spaces.

Our residents also feel strongly about maintaining a connected community with a village feel, and having access to a healthy lifestyle.

The challenges identified for the future of Canada Bay focused on overcoming traffic congestion in the City and managing change in an environment of conflicting demands.

Council would like to thank everyone who has given their input to FuturesPlan20. The next stage of the project involves further in depth consultation and Council will continue to keep residents up to date and involved wih the preparation of the Plan.
