New fleet cars for Canada Bay Council
The City of Canada Bay Council has invested in a range of fuel efficient fleet cars for use around the City.
Eight Ford Ranger, four cylinder turbo diesel utes have been purchased with another two on order.
Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said, "Council is committed to reducing its carbon footprint across all departments.
"Changing Council fleet cars to those that emit less carbon dioxide while being more fuel efficient is a great example of Council actively involved in reducing levels of greenhouse gas emissions while remaining focused on cost savings."
As well as being more fuel efficient and emitting less carbon dioxide per kilometre travelled than petrol, the new diesel vehicles are cheaper to maintain and can be run on bio diesel.
In addition to this, the diesel engines have better pulling power, an important feature for these Council vehicles which are also used for towing trailers. Five of the cars are fitted with an aluminium tipper body and are used for maintaining roads, parks and gardens and golf courses.
As part of an ongoing upgrade of fleet vehicles, Council has also purchased a brand new $150,000 sweeper. The sweeper is small, quick and quiet to run ensuring it is very user friendly and is perfect for sweeping streets, footpaths, small carparks and roundabouts.
