Pesticides Notification Plan

June 18, 2008

The City of Canada Bay Council has adopted a Pesticides Notification Plan to keep residents informed about pesticides used in public outdoor places within the City.

Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said, "Council is committed to keeping the community informed of everyday operations. The Pesticides Notification Plan ensures that all residents have access to this important information and can avoid areas where pesticides have been recently used, if they wish."

Council's pest management program aims to apply best practice, humane and cost effective methods that have minimum impact on the environment.

"Extreme care is taken when pesticides are applied to public places and Council staff in charge of this are fully trained and qualified.

"Council also makes sure to take an integrated approach wherever possible to reduce the use of pesticides. This may involve removing weeds by hand in area where pesticides are not necessary." Mayor Tsirekas added.

The Pesticides Notification Plan, which outlines the public places covered by the Plan and the types of pesticides used, is available on the Council Forms web page.
