Locals shine on Queen’s Birthday list

An impressive list of community minded heroes from the City of Canada Bay has featured on the Queen’s Birthday 2008 honours list.

“I would like to congratulate the local residents who have been recognised on the honours list for providing significant services to the local community,” said Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.      

“In total, four residents have picked up awards for their contributions towards a number of community services ranging from community activities to sports and health.”   

Honours have gone to Murray Clarke from Russell Lea who received a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to rowing, particularly as a coach and administrator, and to the community.  

Enid Doherty from Concord  received a Medal of the Order of Australia for her services to the community, particularly through the activities of the Sisters of Charity Outreach program.  

Reginald Scott from Russell Lea received a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to dental health through executive roles with professional organisations, and to the development of training programs for dental prosthetists.  

Ronald Walls from Concord received a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to medicine in the fields of clinical immunology and allergy, as an academic, researcher and administrator, to the advancement of medical education, and to professional associations.
