Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge

Proposed Access Bridge over Powells Creek near Hamilton Street, North Strathfield

Proposal

City of Canada Bay Council in partnership with Strathfield Council and Planning NSW is proposing to construct a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Powells Creek near Hamilton Street, North Strathfield.

Background

Council in partnership with Strathfield Council has submitted a joint grant application to Planning NSW for the construction of a pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge over Powells Creek near Hamilton Street.  The grant application was approved in November 2008 on a 50/50 funding basis.

The above project was an initiative of Planning NSW Greater Homebush Living Team.  It has been developed in partnership with Strathfield Council, City of Canada Bay Council, Sydney Olympic Park Authority, and two Planning NSW Urban Improvement programs (UIP):

  • Parramatta Road and
  • Centres Travelling Together.

The objectives of the Harbour to Hinterland report, March 2003, by Planning NSW were to acknowledge the assets of the Powells Creek corridor and to establish constrains and opportunities in developing Powells Creek into an open space corridor accessible to a wide range of users and communities along its full length.

Hamilton Street pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Powells Creek was recognized in the report as an important link between the communities living on the eastern side of the creek to the main thoroughfare on the western side of the creek.

It is anticipated that the proposed pedestrian and bicycle bridge will be completed by the end of June 2009.
