12 ways to save at Christmas

"Working with the Bower Reuse and Repair Centre, we are offering the community some great tips on reducing waste - and reducing the hit to your wallet - this Christmas," he said.

"Every year Australians spend thousands of dollars on new Christmas decorations or trees when there are some simple ways to save at this time of the year."

The Bower Centre has put together '12 Do's of Christmas' to help our community reduce waste:

  - forget plastic and make your own Christmas Tree from reclaimed materials. 

- deck your halls with creativity and visit the Bower Centre to create amazing decorations.

- visit the Bower to find all kinds of reused electrical appliances (all checked and tested by electrical technicians) to make Christmas treats.

- The Bower has a huge range of bikes for every shape and size- as well as spare parts to fix up your bike. What a great Christmas gift. 

- a gift voucher to the Bower's 'Tricks of the Trade' workshops is the perfect present. The workshops start again in 2016 and cover range of topics including furniture  restoration, upholstery and basic carpentry. 

- Nowhere to hang your Christmas cards? Visit the Bower and pick up some recycled timber to make a great decorative card holder. 

- If you are hosting this year's Christmas Dinner, head to the Bower to pick up spare tables and chairs! The Bower also offers a delivery service. 

- The hardest gift of all - the office Kris Kringle. The Bower has great gifts fun gifts and a range of books, CDs and bric-a-brac. 

- Avoid disposable plates and cutlery this Christmas and pick up plates, cutlery and other utensils for half the price of new.
