Business Use of Public Footpaths
Outdoor dining and use of the footpaths is increasing across the Council area as local businesses flourish and look for opportunities to create more vibrant and interesting shopping areas. In order to ensure consistency, control and fairness, there is a Council policy that applies to the business use of footpaths across the City of Canada Bay.
If a business is using the footpath for any purpose, it needs to apply to the Council for approval. The footpath policy contains details about how the policy operates, the terms and conditions and the fees that are payable. Current application and licence fees are as follows:
Application Fee | $210 |
Annual licence fee on approval of application | $180 per m2 for Majors Bay Road Concord and Great North Road, Five Dock Minimum $122 per m2 for other areas |
Annual Awning Hire Fee in Five Dock | $2,600 per annum |
Bond (refundable) | $500 |
Businesses, which are using public footpath for business purposes, must lodge an application with Council together with a plan showing the dimensions of the footpath area required. Council will assess the application to ensure compliance with the policy. Unlicensed use of public footpath will be fined in accordance with Council's Law Enforcement Policy.
