Central Concord Local Area Traffic Management

Over the past few years we have been consulting with the Central Concord community regarding traffic issues in Flavelle Street, Macnamara Avenue, Castlereagh Street, Pitt Street, Wellbank Street and Patterson Street.

Three evening workshops were held with interested residents.  Council also sought and considered comments from residents in a letterbox drop survey to all properties in the area about the traffic issues and treatment options. Council then approved a package of traffic calming treatments.  Most construction work was completed in December 2009, while works in Macnamara Avenue were completed in June 2010.

Latest Information

Follow-up traffic speed and volume surveys were carried out in late 2010.  The results were compared to traffic surveys taken at the same locations in early 2009.  A report was considered at the December 2010 Traffic Committee meeting.

The report noted that:

  • The section of Flavelle Street with upgraded thresholds had a significant reduction in speeds
  • The section of Flavelle Street without upgraded thresholds had a marginal reduction in speeds
  • Macnamara Avenue has experienced a significant reduction in speeds and a moderate reduction in volumes
  • The section of Patterson Street where a device was installed near Majors Bay Road had a significant reduction in speeds
  • The other section of Patterson Street has no reduction in speeds
  • Both sections of Patterson Street had a reduction in volumes
  • Traffic speeds and volumes in Castlereagh Street and Pitt Street had negligible change and remain low
  • Wellbank Street experienced a slight reduction in both speed and volume.

Council resolved that the information be noted and that traffic conditions in the area continue to be monitored.
