You don’t need to own a robot to join the spectacle on the dancefloor at The Connection, Rhodes at this family friendly event. It may be the first time you have interacted with robots, or you could be a robot enthusiast, but it is a great way to make new human and machine friends.
Along with the epic robot dance-off, there will be opportunities to learn more about how robots are created with some fun hands-on activities along with demonstrations and displays of different robots. You can also have your photo snapped in a special booth where you will become the robot.
The Human Robot Friendship Ball is just one event in the Rhodes: Creative program staged by City of Canada Bay for Vivid Ideas.
Other events include a Simplebot Maker Lab, where participants will make robots that crawl, dance, wiggle, sweep and scoop using everyday objects and simple electronics. In the sARTorial: Fun with Wearable Electronics workshop, children aged eight to 12 will create wearable electronics using LEDs for shoes, skateboards and more.
There are also workshops on designing jewellery using 3D modelling and 3D printing. City of Canada Bay Mayor Helen McCaffrey said The Learning Space at The Connection, which will host many Rhodes: Creative events, is pushing the boundaries of traditional libraries.
“Our programs at this state-of-the-art facility have been very successful and Vivid Ideas raises the bar even higher,” Mayor McCaffrey said.
