Let's Make Australia a Reading Nation
Superstar group, the Wiggles, have thrown their support behind the cause of literacy, fun times and sharing books to encourage children to get into the reading habit. The Wiggles and Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) want your kids to love books and reading from an early age - it's one of the best things we can all do to help them develop good literacy skills.
Nearly half the population struggles without the literacy skills to meet the most basic demands of everyday life and work. This means that more than four out of every ten Australians are denied the joy and inspiration of reading for pleasure. They miss the opportunity to imagine life through someone else's eyes, to experience adventure and excitement in the pages of a book.
The City of Canada Bay Library Service offers a range of services and activities for children from birth to Year 6.
2012 National Year of Reading Launch
Join us to celebrate your 'unbirthday' at the launch the 2012 National Year of Reading. Come dressed as your favourite Alice in Wonderland character, any other book character or come dressed as you are. Parents join in the fun and dress as your favourite childhood book character. Enjoy some party games and party food. Prizes for the best dressed child and the best dressed family.
