HSC Resources

The City of Canada Bay Library service has resources to help HSC students with their studies.  A current City of Canada Bay library card  is needed to access these resources.

Schools Collection

A reference collection containing study guides and texts relating to HSC subjects.  Items in this collection can only be used in the library.

Infocus

Items are selected from the State Library of NSW collection for their relevance to HSC topics, texts and issues.  This is a reference collection only available at Five Dock Library.  More information can be found at the Infocus web site.

Online Databases

Library members can access the following databases in the library or via remote access through NSW.net

  • Australia/NZ Reference Centre & MasterFILE Premier - Includes newspaper articles on Australian and International current affairs, business, social science, health, literature and biographical information.
  • Literary Reference Center - Has extensive coverage of literary biographies, plot summaries, criticism and author interviews.  It includes full text of some 50,000 poems, 13,500 short stories and 7,000 classic texts.
  • NoveList - Helps guide readers to other fiction titles of interest either by subject or 'read-alikes' - other authors who are similar to a favourite author.
  • Science Reference Center - Extensive coverage of articles on biology, physics, chemistry, earth sciences, space, the environment, wildlife and technology.
  • Consumer Health Complete - Has evidence based health reports, health news and articles from health encyclopedias and reference books.  There is drug and herb information as well as information on alternative health sources.  It also includes images, diagrams, and health videos.
  • Standards Australia Online - Database can be accessed in the library only.

Online encyclopedia can be accessed in the library or via remote access.

yourtutor Online 

Free online tutoring service.  Get help with your homework from trained, professional tutors!

  • For school students in Years 4-12;
  • Available Monday-Friday 4pm-8pm;
  • Subjects covered include Maths, English, Science, Assignment Research and Study Skills.

How it works:

  • Students select their subject and year level;
  • Students enter the online classroom where they are connected to a live tutor;
  • Student asks their question and the tutor works through it with the student.
