How can I join the library?
Visit one of the libraries with a completed Library Membership Form. Bring identification showing your name and current address. It is a condition of membership that all patrons read and agree to the Internet/ Computer Policy. Membership is free of charge.
People under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian's signature on their membership form before a library card can be issued. High school students need to show identification with name and current address. High school students without identification showing their name and current address need to bring proof of residence e.g. a copy of their parent's or guardian's latest Energy Australia invoice.
When should I present the library card?
A current City of Canada Bay library card must be presented each time a patron borrows or accesses resources.
How many items can I borrow?
You can borrow up to the following limits for each type of item:
- 20 books (limit of 2 per subject for school assignment topics)
- 6 books on cassette/CD
- 4 magazines
- 4 music CDs
- 2 kits
- 4 toys *
- 2 CD-ROMs *
- 7 DVDs
* Adult card required
How long can I keep library items?
All items can be borrowed for 21 days.
Can I renew my loans?
You can renew library items (except DVDs) a maximum of two times if no one else has reserved them. Library items can be renewed in person, by phone or online via Member Services on our website.
To renew Inter Library Loans, please contact Document Delivery Officer on 9911 6352 or email ILL@canadabay.nsw.gov.au. Items will be renewed with the permission of the lending library.

Can I reserve items?
You can reserve items (except Toys) in person, by phone or via our online library catalogue on our website. A $1.50 reservation fee will be charged when you collect each item from the library.

What should I do if I lose my library card?
Please report lost or stolen library cards to our libraries as soon as possible. A new card will be issued when appropriate identification is shown. A $5.00 charge applies for replacement of a library card.
What should I do if I change my address?
Please let us know your new address by phone or in person. You will need to show proof of your new address when you next visit the library.
What should I do if I have lost a library item?
Contact the library and we will advise you of any replacement costs that may be charged for the lost item.
Where can I return my library items?
Library items can be returned to any of the two libraries during opening hours and also through the after hours return chutes located outside each library.
When and where can I return the library toys?
Toys need to be returned to the library from which they were borrowed when the library is open. Toys must not be left outside the library, after hours. Charges may apply for damaged toys or missing pieces.
Do I have to pay fines on overdue items?
Fines of $0.50 per first overdue notice and $2 per second overdue notice will be charged for Adults and Young Adults. Children will not be charged overdue fines.
Can I access computers at the Library?
Computers are available for internet, email and word processing for maximum of two hours per day. The Internet /Computer Policy needs to have been read and agreed upon to access computers. A current library card and a 4 digit PIN is required to access this facility.
All children from preschool to year 6 primary school must be accompanied by a responsible adult while using the public access/ internet computers.
Can I photocopy at the Library?
A current library card is required to access this facility. A PIN needs to be set up and credit needs to be added to each card.
