Council is committed to supporting a vibrant and inclusive arts and culture sector that reflects the creativity, diversity and identity of the local community. Through strategic planning, partnerships and programs, Council works to enhance cultural experiences, support local artists and organisations, and create opportunities for community connection and participation in arts and culture across the City of Canada Bay.

Public Art StrategyPublic Art Strategy

Public art can include sculpture, place-making elements, wall embellishments, artist designed seating and fencing, paving work, lighting elements and other creative possibilities. Public Art can serve both an aesthetic and functional purpose.

Embedding public art into the built environment is a recognised way to strengthen the character and identity of new, renewed and existing urban places. It can help bring local stories, histories and relationships into the public domain, creating spaces that feel more meaningful and connected to the communities who use them.

There are many sites around the City of Canada Bay which present exciting opportunities for public art. It can be used as a way of improving the urban environment and public spaces, and also to celebrate the past, present and future of the local environment. Public art can make a vital contribution to the experience of public places within cities and regional urban centres.

Our Creative CityOur Creative City — Cultural Plan 2033

Council's Our Creative City Cultural Plan 2033 sets the strategic direction for producing a range of contemporary arts programs that span the visual and performing arts, digital arts, public art and social history. The plan articulates a suite of directions to lead the development of Council's cultural program.

Council adopted the Our Creative City — Cultural Plan 2033 and Public Art Strategy in August 2023.

Arts Collection Policy

The Art Collection Policy contains direction for the acquisition, management, documentation and deaccessioning of items in the City of Canada Bay Art Collection, including public art. The Policy sets out principles and practices to guide decision making about the Collection to meet best practice in its development, documentation, conservation, interpretation and display.
