Council to boost evening economy

Council | 23 November 2020

Our City after 5, Council’s brand new evening economy plan, will boost our area’s social scene from 5–9pm.

“In a tough year for local business, I am pleased to announce we have put together a plan that will boost our local economy and enable our community to gather together safely in the evening,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“We want to build a better evening economy for our City, so local business, community and culture can continue to thrive after dark,” he said.

“We have worked closely with local businesses and our community to put together a fantastic plan for our City, which is now on public exhibition.”

One hundred per cent of the residents who responded to the consultation earlier in the year wanted to see more evening activation across our City.

Five key directions were identified in the plan for Council and business to help achieve this vision for Our City after 5:

  1. Guide future planning and activities that help build community, investment, business, connectivity, and culture

  2. Improve public amenity for evening activation

  3. Support the development of a diverse evening offering

  4. Strengthen the unique characteristics of our local places

  5. Optimise use of underutilised community facilities and recreation spaces in the evening.

“Our City is changing, and by enhancing our unique business offerings into the evening, we will continue to grow economic prosperity throughout the area. I encourage you to join us in the journey toward creating a more prosperous evening economy,” Mayor Tsirekas said.
