The City of Canada Bay is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural Community Awards, an annual event celebrating individuals, groups, businesses and organisations that make a positive contribution to the local community.
The Community Awards are a reimagining of Council’s biennial Sustainability and Business Awards, expanding the program to recognise a broader range of contributions across the community.
The awards will recognise achievements across eight categories:
- Spirit of Community Award
- Social Inclusion Award
- Environmental Champion Award
- Heritage Award
- Diversity and Inclusion Award
- Sporting Group of the Year
- Local Volunteer of the Year
- School Spirit and Community Impact Award
City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said the awards are an opportunity to formally recognise the people and groups who help shape a stronger, more connected community.
“Our community is built on the dedication, generosity and passion of local people who go above and beyond,” Mayor Megna said.
“These awards are about shining a light on those contributions — whether it’s a volunteer giving their time, a local group creating opportunities for others, or individuals working to protect our environment and heritage.”
Mayor Megna encouraged residents to nominate someone who has made a positive impact.
“We know there are countless unsung heroes across Canada Bay,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment to recognise someone who is making a difference and put forward a nomination.”
The award ceremony will take place at Oliveto Ristorante & Bar on Thursday, 18 June 2026, and will also incorporate City of Canada Bay’s Service Awards and the announcement of the 2026-27 Community Grants recipients.
