City of Canada Bay rolls out six hectares of new turf at Timbrell Park

Planning & building | 07 April 2026

The City of Canada Bay has commenced installation of six hectares of new turf at Timbrell Park, Five Dock, as part of a major sports field upgrade.

The project is designed to improve the playability of the fields after wet weather following community feedback on the Timbrell Park Masterplan.

“We’re committed to investing in our parks and public spaces,” said City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna.

“One of the key messages we heard from the community during consultation on the Timbrell Park Masterplan was the need to improve the resilience of the fields after rain.

“The installation of new, hardier turf will help achieve this aim, together with the recent installation of new irrigation and drainage systems as part of the upgrade.”

Council has begun installing over 200 rolls of Kikuyu turf onsite, chosen for its durability, water-tolerance, and ability to recover quickly after wear and tear.

The upgrade has also seen the older light poles replaced with new, energy-efficient LED alternatives to help improve sustainability and playability of the fields at night.

The second phase of the project will include the construction of a new shared pathway and parking improvements, including a pram ramp and accessible car spaces.

39 new mature trees will also be planted on-site as part of the works.

The Timbrell Park Sportsfield Upgrade is anticipated to be complete by mid-May, allowing the fields and new trees time to take root.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with the City of Canada Bay.

The community is invited to visit Collaborate Canada Bay to find out more.
