Road safety upgrades proposed around Concord Hospital

Planning & building | 02 February 2026

To improve pedestrian and driver safety around Concord Hospital, the City of Canada Bay is proposing safety upgrades to the intersection of Nullawarra Avenue and Boronia Street in Concord West.

The proposal includes the construction of speed cushions and a new roundabout designed to slow vehicles and improve traffic flow at the intersection.

Several upgrades are aimed at assisting pedestrians to cross the road, including new pedestrian refuge islands, kerb ramps connecting to existing footpaths and a new raised pedestrian crossing.

To increase visibility for all road users, improvements are planned for the existing street lighting at the intersection.

“Council has listened closely to the community about the improvements they’d like to see in this busy, mixed-use area,” said Mayor Michael Megna.

“These upgrades take into account the ways drivers, pedestrians and cyclists use the road and will make a real difference to the safety of people who live, work and use services in this precinct.”

The City of Canada Bay’s ongoing commitment to road safety is reflected in the consistent funding it allocates to road works, which totals over $4.7 million across the LGA in 2025-2026. The Federal Government will contribute to the Nullawarra Avenue project through its Black Spot Safety Program.

Council is now inviting the community to provide feedback on the proposed plans as part of the first round of consultation. Further details are available here and feedback is open until Sunday, 8 March 2026.
