Five tonnes of waste cleaned up

| 28 March 2017

.

There were 27 sites registered across our community with 583 volunteers. City of Canada Bay hosted clean ups in Halliday Park (60 volunteers) and Rhodes Foreshore Park (33 volunteers).

From the 14 sites that utilised Council’s waste collection service, volunteers removed about 5.36 tonnes of waste and 250 kilograms of recycling from our local environment, which Council then collected and disposed of.

“Team Up to Clean Up was a great opportunity to clean up and conserve our natural environment,” Mayor Helen McCaffrey said.“It’s always best if waste goes in the bin and doesn’t end up polluting our beautiful area. This wonderful initiative keeps litter out of our parks, streets and waterways.”

The Council would like to thank everyone who came out, joined in and helped ensure this was another successful Clean Up Australia Bay in Canada Bay.

Also, a big thank you to Five Dock Rotary who cooked for the free Council barbecue in Halliday Park.

Until next year, remember you can Clean Up Australia on any day of the year – visit
