Community Recycling Centre

Have problem household waste you're not sure how to dispose of safely and sustainably? Our Community Recycling Centre could be the answer.

Please note: businesses are not eligible to use Community Recycling Centres and should contact a waste disposal service directly for their commercial waste, with the exception of paint disposal. Up to 100L of paint in 20L containers can be dropped off by residents or businesses at our centre, as we are a Paintback site

Location and opening hours

The City of Canada Bay Community Recycling Centre for problem household waste is located at 15-17 Regatta Road, Five Dock, adjacent to the Council depot entrance. The opening hours are:

  • Tuesday to Friday: 8am–3pm
  • Saturday: 7am–4 pm
  • Aerial shot of Community Recycling Centre

For more information call the City of Canada Bay on 9911 6555 or visit the NSW EPA's Community Recycling Centre website.

This project was supported by the NSW Environmental Trust as part of the NSW EPA’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.

The problem wastes, listed below, accepted at the Centre will be sent for specialist recycling and must never be placed in any of your household bins.

You can drop off the following problem wastes for free:

  • Oil and water-based paint
  • Motor, cooking and other oils
  • Car and household batteries
  • Gas bottles
  • Fluoro globes and tubes
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors.

Only household quantities of problem waste and up to 100L of total paint containers will be accepted. Maximum individual container size of 20L or 20kg. Please transport your materials carefully. Dangerous goods and items other than those listed will not be accepted.

Limited quantities of flattened cardboard subject to storage capacity may be collected from residents of City of Canada Bay and Burwood Council areas only.

E-Waste collection is not currently available as of November 2023.  This page will be updated when we are able to recommence collection.

Items not accepted

The Community Recycling Centre only accepts the items above. Other household chemicals such as solvents, poisons and pool chemicals are not accepted. These materials are accepted at the Annual Household Chemical Cleanout event, held in October each year. Household Chemical Cleanout events are run by the EPA throughout the year and your closest location can be found here.

The Centre does not accept general household items, furniture or electronic waste. Visit our Item Lookup to find out how to manage these materials..
