Nature photography competition

| 18 July 2017

The competition aims to showcase what the community values most about the area in which we live and work. “We invite locals to send us an image of your favourite natural space or local species within the local government area,” City of Canada Bay Mayor, Helen McCaffrey said. “This could include local parks or foreshore areas, local flora such as native plants or bushland and fauna such as birds and crabs.”

Each unique entry will be judged on its creativity, ability to highlight local natural beauty as well as photographic techniques applied.

The winning entrant will receive a $100 restaurant voucher with two runners-up awarded $50 restaurant vouchers.

Not only will the competition give residents an opportunity to get creative with their photography skills, but it also has a more serious side in providing the community with a way to engage with Council around environmental issues which will be used to shape City of Canada Bay’s  environmental strategy and state of the environment reporting.

“The photos will reveal what areas are held dear to our community by showing what the most popular natural spaces or species are,” Mayor McCaffrey said.

“This will provide a visual outcome to feed into our environmental strategy, which also includes a survey that is running alongside the photography competition.”

“Competition entrants and anyone else living and working in the City of Canada Bay who is interested in our natural spaces, are also invited to fill out the short survey as part of community engagement for our environmental reporting,” Mayor McCaffrey said.

The survey includes six questions in regards to the environment and how Council is tracking in achieving favourable outcomes.
