Summer learn to swim program a success

| 08 January 2018

City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas has rung in the new year with positive praise for the 2017 Learn To Swim class; an educative program driven and supported by Council.

The program offered a 50% subsidy for 126 local preschool aged children to learn to swim at Council’s Drummoyne and Cabarita Swimming Centres.

“To kick off the summer swimming season last year, the City of Canada Bay provided over $10,000 in funding to support our Swimming and Water Safety program,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“The important program taught life-long skills to our community’s youngest members, assisting their safety and awareness around water and pools as we move through the warm summer months.”

The program subsidy assisted parents looking to give their youngest children water confidence and has proven successful in its first year.

“Well over half of the children involved in this program have been placed in further swimming classes at our pools, which is a great indication of the success of this program,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

The City of Canada Bay encourages our community to explore and enjoy our extensive network of foreshore and water areas, while remaining vigilant about water safety.
