As weather is unpredictable, Council reserves the right to alter its decisions on any ground closures after considering the current weather conditions, either during the week or the weekend. If you are unsure of ground conditions you can call the Wet Weather Hotline or text the SMS BounceBack System.

Visual inspections are carried out on the sports fields daily to ensure the quality of the playing surface and to check against the Sports Rating System. During wet periods the inspections are more thorough and take into consideration the following when making decisions on closures:

  • Safety of users
  • Amount of surface water present on the turf
  • If the quality and integrity of the field surface will be adversely affected due to the combination of wet turf and the stress of sporting activities
  • Field location, soil type and the drainage system in place - some fields have much better drainage than others
  • If fields will be damaged and taken out of action for long repair periods
  • Ensuring fields are available as soon as possible after wet periods.
