City of Canada Bay in partnership with Place Leaders Asia Pacific, will present the three-day Big Ideas in Place: Place Leaders Asia Pacific Conference 2017 as part of the festival, along with a series called Rhodes: Creative which will feature robots, 3D printing and wearable technology at The Connection, Rhodes.
“What an honour to be selected to deliver a program of events as part of one of Sydney’s largest festivals in the City of Canada Bay at our newest state-of-the art venue, The Connection, Rhodes,” Mayor Helen McCaffrey said. “It shows the calibre of programs and events that The Connection offers.”
“Being a place-based council, we are hosting the Place Leaders Asia Pacific conference, which will bring together leading voices and visionaries from across the Asia Pacific to discuss the biggest trends and ideas in creating the future of our places. One of the topics on the agenda is a workshop on affordable housing, a topic which the Council is very passionate about,” Mayor McCaffrey said.
Highlights of the Rhodes Creative program include a Human Robot Friendship Ball – a celebration of the bonds between people and machines, which will showcase some of Sydney’s coolest robots busting a move. There will also be an opportunity to learn how to design jewellery using 3D modelling and 3D printing and a workshop on creating wearable electronics for costumes, skateboards, shoes or other objects, plus much more.
“The programs at The Connection are pushing the boundaries of traditional libraries. Our programs to date have been very successful and Vivid Ideas raises the bar even higher,” Mayor McCaffrey said.
“I encourage our community to embrace these wonderful, thought-provoking and fun events.”The aim of Vivid Ideas is to generate a rich and diverse flow of ideas and creative discussion to support the development of Australia’s creative sector.
The program celebrates and champions creativity and innovation; connecting audiences and creative professionals with world-class creators, makers and thinkers, to share cutting-edge insights, market and industry updates and build tools and skills for the future.
The festival runs from Friday, 26 May to Saturday, 17 June.
