Spotlight on Saltmarsh Tour

Spotlight on Saltmarsh Tour

Did you know that Coastal Saltmarsh communities are endangered ecological communities throughout Australia?

The City of Canada Bay is one of the few Council areas in Sydney where these special salt tolerant species still survive, growing in inter-tidal zones, usually behind a band of protective mangroves. Coastal Saltmarsh vegetation communities play a crucial role in supporting marine species and shorebirds, and also have the ability to capture and store high amounts of carbon.

To help residents learn more about these special plants, Parramatta River Catchment Group and Council will be taking community members on a tour of three different Coastal Saltmarsh communities in the estuarine area of the Parramatta River — all highly impacted by urban development. The mini bus tour will start at Prince Edward Park  in Concord and conclude at Sydney Olympic Park's estuarine wetlands, home to 25 hectares of Coastal Saltmarsh!

Bookings are essential as places are limited. Light refreshments will be provided.
