NSW Government Household Asbestos Collection Trial
In July 2026, the NSW Government announced a two-year trial of a free household asbestos collection service, starting in 2027. Eligible households will be able to arrange free collection and disposal of small amounts of asbestos waste from activities such as home renovations or demolition.
The trial is being delivered by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) as part of the NSW Government's Asbestos Plan of Action. Eligibility, registration and collection details will be announced by the NSW Government before the trial begins in 2027 (see link to the EPA website below).
Need to dispose of asbestos now?
The trial has not yet commenced. If you need to dispose of asbestos waste now, licensed disposal facilities are available (fees apply). Important: Never put asbestos out in your kerbside bins or bulk household clean-up. This is illegal and poses a safety risk.
