Community Recycling Centre

At the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) you can drive through and drop off household problem waste that cannot go in your kerbside bins. This is a free service with no bookings or appointments required. The CRC is a drive-through facility. For the safety of staff and members of the public, we are unable to accept customer walk-ins.

Before visiting the CRC

Safety tips

When entering the CRC, lower your window, follow staff members’ instructions on where to stop and unload. Turn off your engine before unloading.

Avoid placing items on the floor. Wearing gloves while handling items is recommended.

Paint

Please note: businesses are not eligible to use Community Recycling Centres and should contact a waste disposal service directly for their commercial waste, with the exception of paint disposal. Up to 100L of paint in 20L containers can be dropped off by residents or businesses at our centre, as we are a Paintback site

Items accepted

You can drop off the following problem wastes for free:

  • Oil and water-based paint
  • Car and household batteries
  • Gas bottles (Please note: due to an increase in nitrous oxide gas cannister drop-offs and capacity limits, we are now limiting the number of bottles accepted to 4 bottles at a time. Your drop-off may be rejected if you exceed this limit).
  • Fluoro globes and tubes
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detectors
  • Motor, cooking and other oils.
  • Limited quantities of flattened cardboard (subject to storage capacity)
  • Aerosols

Please note, only household quantities of problem waste will be accepted and maximum individual container size of 20L or 20kg. The only exception is for paint - up to 100L of paint (divided into 20L containers) will be accepted. Please transport your materials carefully. Dangerous goods and items other than those listed will not be accepted.

National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme:

Televisions, computers and their associated items including personal and laptop computers, tablets, notebooks, palmtops, computer monitors and parts (including hard drives and CD drives, printers, scanners, faxes, keyboards, mice, web cameras, USBs and computer cables) are now being accepted at the centre, subject to available storage capacity. For more information about this National Scheme, please visit the Australian Government webpage.

Items not accepted

The Community Recycling Centre only accepts the items above. Visit our Item Lookup to find out how to manage other items.

Other household chemicals such as solvents, poisons and pool chemicals are not accepted. These materials are accepted at the Annual Household Chemical Cleanout event, held in October each year. Household Chemical Cleanout events are run by the EPA throughout the year and your closest location can be found here.

The Centre does not accept general household items, glass/mirrors, furniture or household electronic waste (items outside of the scope of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, such as but not limited to kitchen appliances, hair dryers, fans, vacuums, heaters, electric shavers, wearable devices, and garden appliances). Residents of the City of Canada Bay can book a Homecycle collection for small electrical home and garden appliances (items under 8kgs only).

Embedded battery items, including vapes, are also not accepted at this CRC. The NSW EPA are trialling a collection of these items at selected CRCs across NSW. For more information on the embedded battery trial, please visit the NSW EPA website.
