Iron Cove Creek Bridge Upgrade

| 13 August 2014

The $1 million bridge project is a collaboration between the City of Canada Bay and Ashfield Council, with funds also sourced from NSW Roads and Maritime.

“This is a great example of neighbouring Councils coming together to fund and develop an infrastructure project that will benefit their communities,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“The new bridge will improve safety for Bay Run users and is part of an overall strategy to work with Ashfield and Leichhardt Councils to enhance the entire Iron Cove Bay precinct. It will also improve the experience for community members and visitors who use this popular foreshore path.”

The project includes construction of a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Iron Cove Creek Canal near the intersection of Timbrell Drive and the City West Link.

The proposed cable bridge will be 30 metres long and 4.5 metres wide and will connect the existing Bay Run pathway at either end.

“Over 3,500 pedestrians and cyclists use the footpath on the existing road bridge to cross the Iron Cove Creek canal on an average Sunday and upgrading the crossing will significantly improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists,” Mayor Tsirekas said.

“It will also add the final piece to the upgrade of the Bay Run. This $2 million upgrade was completed earlier this year and included the widening of the footpath to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians, the installation of a new water station and upgraded seating and shade areas.”

Feedback is now being sought about the proposed new bridge, with information available on .
