St Lukes Oval set for a $1.9 million upgrade

This September construction works are scheduled to begin at St Lukes Oval in Concord.

The oval, nestled within the City of Canada Bay’s largest sporting precinct, is set to receive a massive $1.9 million upgrade.

“We are committed to providing our community with world-class facilities and open spaces,” City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas said.

“This project at St Lukes Oval will revitalise a well-used community space and provide high quality recreation opportunities for residents and visitors alike.”

“It will also benefit our popular sports clubs that operate at St Lukes Oval including Briars Cricket, Concord Giants, Canada Bay Cannons and Inner West Little Athletics. This project with provide these clubs and our budding athletes with top quality facilities.”

The $1.9 million project will be completed in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Works include widening the oval, new irrigation, sportsfield drainage, installation of a new cricket wicket, relevelling the playing surface and returfing the field. 
  • Stage 2: Works will include construction of new player shelters, a new barbecue area, installation of a long jump pit and run up track.

The project is funded by the City of Canada Bay, the NSW Government –through its Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund – and AFL NSW/ACT. Works are scheduled to be complete in early 2022.
