Artist Talk: Si Yi Shen & Chris Caines

Artist Talk: Si Yi Shen & Chris Caines

The Learning Space View in maps

Don’t miss this special opportunity to hear from two celebrated digital artists, who will be showing in The Digital Gallery, Rhodes. Interdisciplinary artists Si Yi Shen and Chris Caines have created two very different, but equally stunning video artworks specifically for The Digital Gallery, and we are thrilled to hear more about their practice, and the creative and technical processes behind these works. This is a free, family friendly event.

Everyone is welcome. Drinks & nibbles will be provided.

Chris Caines has worked internationally in a variety of digital and electronic media for over twenty years. His impressive, yet contemplative 4-channel video artwork The Great Year and the Seventy-Two Seasons contrasts the 72-year median human lifespan with the precessional rotation of the Earth’s axis over 26,000 years. The development of this work was supported by numerous arts grants, commissions and international residencies.
Chris Caines’ artwork will be showing in The Digital Gallery 17 March-14 April.

Si Yi Shen is an emerging multidisciplinary artist who has exhibited extensively in Australia. Her current practice explores diaspora experience through the body of an immigrant in a digitally enabled world. Her work Thrive is a stunning digital mural that sourced photographs of flowers and plants from residents of City of Canada Bay. This beautiful work takes inspiration from the artist's mother's non-verbal communication with overseas family members and friends, with whom she shares photographs of flowers as digital greetings. Si Yi Shen’s artwork will be showing in the Digital Gallery 2-29 May.

This event is part of Canada Bay Makers festival.
