The work exhibited by local artist Cathy Jack Coupland showcases the alchemy between thread, stitch and cloth. Contemporary textiles became important during The Arts and Crafts Movement in England in the late 1800’s.
The continuing development of sewing machine technology has led to wide-ranging applications and opened numerous innovative possibilities for the use of machine stitch as an individual form of expression.
This work uses the traditions of previous generations, but by adapting the use of new materials and processes. Cathy Jack Coupland pushes the boundaries of textiles as contemporary art.
