The City of Canada Bay has partnered with Australian Red Cross charity to run a drive-through donation day.
The event aims to make it easy for residents to donate pre-loved items and make a positive difference to those in need, as well as the environment.
“We are proud to be part of this donation drive that not only gives our second-hand goods another life, but also supports people in need. It is the first charity event of this kind that we have done and, as we emerge from the extended lockdown, it offers our residents a convenient and COVID-safe way to contribute their donations,” says City of Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas.
On Saturday, 4 December from 9am to 3pm, the car park at Cintra Park on Crane Street in Concord will become a drive-through drop-off point for locals who want to donate quality pre-loved clothing, accessories and homewares to the Australian Red Cross charity.
Funds raised from donations go to support Red Cross teams helping people overcome hardship, crisis and disaster in Australia and across the Asia Pacific.
“Our recently adopted Resource Recovery and Waste Strategy sets out a pathway towards zero waste to landfill, with a focus on transitioning our area to a circular economy. Events like this one support these goals by encouraging reuse and recycling, and diverting items that are still in good condition from becoming landfill,” says Mayor Tsirekas.
Goods that will be accepted for donation include quality clothing and accessories, bed linen, books, CDs, DVDs, tableware and small quality homewares. Items not accepted include furniture, electrical, bulky goods, toys and any damaged items.
