City of Canada Bay reveals plan for thriving summer town centres

The City of Canada Bay has revealed an exciting new program that will see the City come to life.

“The impact of extended lockdowns has been tough on everyone, especially our small businesses and creative community,” City of Canada Bay General Manager John Clark said.

“To help invigorate our local economy and bring life back to our town centres, the City of Canada Bay has introduced our Vibrant Village Centres Program.”

The program encourages people to return to town centres by creating safe and vibrant public spaces, activated by arts and culture.

The City of Canada Bay has also been working to enhance community hubs with bright plantings, improved street furniture, and deep cleaning programs along main streets.

These spaces will come alive with a program of family activities. There is something for everyone with a schedule of roving performers, art displays, free fitness classes, crafternoons, swap meets, pop up libraries, plus an extensive Christmas program.

The Vibrant Village Centres Program will also see the return of popular events such as Dumpling DJ Nights in Rhodes, as well as live music every week across town centres.

As part of the program, the City of Canada Bay is also exploring the possibility of establishing temporary shared spaces across the City which will enable businesses to increase their on street dining or run pop-up promotions or events.

These temporary shared spaces will only go ahead with significant support from adjacent local businesses, residents and the wider community and will be in place for a maximum of 6 months from December 2021 to May 2022.
